Ella Fitzgerald & Count Basie Orchestra - Booty's Blues

I am in love with this video, and I'm sure once you watch it you will know why.

I bet all improvisers wish they had Ella Fitzgerald to trade 4's with.

At the Jazz Standard -Ambrose Akinmusire

Recently, this has been one of my favorite groups to listen to. One of my favorite cds is their Live In Paris album, which has an extremely loaded band. I highly recommend this cd as it has been one I have enjoyed very much. For more information check out: http://notesonjazz.blogspot.com/2010/08

The band consists of Walter Smith III (tenor sax), Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet), Matt Brewer (bass), Aaron Goldberg (piano), and Marcus Gilmore (drums).

Dave Holland Quintet

If you want to hear more great music from the Dave Holland band, make sure you check out this CD, Prime Directive. I have enjoyed this album a ton, and I'm sure you will get a lot out of it. It was nominated for the Grammys in 2001 for best jazz instrumental album.

The band is made up of Dave Holland (double bass); Chris Potter (saxophones); Robin Eubanks (trombone and cowbells); Steve Nelson (vibraphone and marimba), and Billy Kilson (drums). There are a couple different people in the video, though.

Brecker Brothers Live In Barcelona - Some Skunk Funk

Now here's a song which is always taken faster live. Listen to the recording and then this and you'll find there is a huge difference. And the great part is that there are even faster shows than this on YouTube.

So why did I pick this one, you ask? The reason is because I found Michael's solo especially killin' and I definitely was buying everything he was playing. Once you watch the video, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Definitely one of the best run-throughs of this song I've heard. Enjoy!
